Q: How does renting a track car work?
A: A TDD Rental Session gets you a dedicated time slot to drive a track car during a track day event. The rental cost includes registration and does not require a separate entry fee. A single rental session is a 30 minute block consisting of:
5 Minutes of prep (getting harness on, seat adjusted, cameras recording, etc...)
20 Minutes track time (pit-exit to pit-entry)
5 Minutes of debrief (exit vehicle, vehicle condition check, video & data saved, etc...)
Q: How is damage & insurance handled?
A: TDD track car rentals currently operate on a policy of you break it, you buy it. We require a refundable damage deposit fee (vehicle and event specific) that will be returned after the event, pending no driver-liable damage events occur (see below). For driver-liable costs, anything beyond the damage deposit is to be covered by the renter (and conversely, for damage less than the deposit, the unused portion of the deposit is returned to the renter). We are working to have an insurance-based option available in the near future.
Q: What am I not liable for?
A: Normal wear and tear that accompanies driving a car on track. Things like tire wear, brake wear, & minor rock chips are expected and these costs will not be passed onto you. Minor off-track excursions aren't something you'll be charged for either if there is no resulting damage. You also are not responsible for incidents for things outside of your control. Some examples:
Q: What am I liable for?
A: Any damage as a result of incidents if you are determined at-fault. Driving into objects (walls, vehicles, etc.), money shifting, or damage caused by otherwise overly abusing the car will leave you responsible for the repair bill. Generally speaking, you should treat the rental car as if it were owned by you.
Q: What if the car breaks down?
A: If the car encounters mechanical problems through no fault of your own, your refund will be pro-rated for the time you lost in which the car is no longer fully functional. Visit the policy section for more information.
