Track Day & Track Car Rental Policy
Vehicle Safety & Tech
Participants perform the tech-inspaction on their own vehicle. The Vehicle Safety Inspection Form will be emailed to participants prior to an event, and must be signed and turned into TDD staff before the drivers meeting. The TDD Track Car will have the same inspection performed by TDD Track Staff. The form can be viewed below:
Damage To The Facility
While each track has its' own specific definitions for what they do and don't charge, & for how much, any damage done to the track is the responsibility of the party(s) involved. Example: if you collide with a barrier and damage it, you may receive a bill from the facility to repair it. While charges are generally reserved for major damage, it is best practice to avoid placing yourself in a situation where this conversation is necessary. Stay safe and stay on the track surface.
Driver Safety
Any and all persons in a vehicle on track must have an approved helmet. This includes passengers. We follow the SCCA standard, which means an approved helmet must have a 2010 or newer Snell, SFI, or FIA rating. Open-face helmets are allowed in cars with windshields, but closed-face helmets are always recommended.
Long pants are required for any persons in a vehicle on the track surface.
Track Day Policy
Damage & Insurance
Both front windows must be open while on track, rain or shine.
Convertibles - each venue has its own rules for rollover protection, so it is important to check that facility's requirements. Generally speaking, rollbars are encouraged for all convertibles.
Track Car Rental Policy
TDD track car rentals operate on a policy of you break it, you buy it. We require a refundable damage deposit fee (vehicle and event specific) that will be returned after the event, pending no driver-liable damage events occur (see below). For driver-liable costs, anything beyond the damage deposit is to be covered by the renter (and conversely, for damage less than the deposit, the unused portion of the deposit is returned to the renter). We are working to have an insurance-based (non-damage deposit) option available in the future, and we will update this policy when that arrives.
A driver-liable damage event is damage that is caused solely by the drivers actions (you are determined at-fault). This is regardless if it is caused by negligence, recklessness, or generally not taking care of someone else's property. Driving ability is a driver-liable event too - if you do not feel confident in your ability to operate a TDD track car, notify staff and we will decide what the best course of action is, dependent on the issue at hand. Generally speaking, you should treat the car as if it were owned by you.
Examples of, & not limited to, driver-liable damage events:
Colliding with another vehicle or barrier
Excessive grinding of gears & misshifts (including money shifts)
Underbody damage as a result of an off-track excursion
Normal wear and tear are not driver-liable damage events. Normal wear & tear are things that are expected to occur to a vehicle as a result of driving on track. These are things like paint chips, tire wear (within reason), brake wear, rock chips to windshield, etc...
Vehicle Safety
Damage To Others' Health & Property
You are responsible for any harm or damage done to someone else's well-being and their property. Keeping your driving standards, and your vehicles condition, are key to holding safe and fun events.
Note, if your personal vehicle causes damage to a TDD Track Car, whether it be due to parts falling off on track and hitting our vehicle, or leaving an oil track which causes our car to have a collision, you may be held liable for any and all resulting damage to the TDD Track Car.
Rental Overuse
Our Track Car Rental model is time-based, and it is crucial that you do not overstay your allotted time slot. Otherwise, the next renters time will be compromised, which is a bad day for all parties. The standard rental time slot is 20 minutes of track-time (from pit-exit to pit-entry). To encourage fairness to all renters, on-track time spent beyond this limit will be charged at a rate of $20/minute, rounding up to the nearest minute.
Refund Policy
Track cars will eventually see issues on the track, it comes with the territory no matter how much we prepare. If a TDD Track Car encounters major mechanical problems through no fault of your own, your refund will be pro-rated for the time you lost in which the car is no longer fully functioning (if car stops functioning 50% of the way into your session, you will get 50% of that sessions rental cost back). This will be policed & enforced by the time in which you exit the track and enter the pits (vehicle condition permitting), so it is important that you pull into the pits right away if you suspect a major issue. Specifics will be covered in the drivers meeting at the event.
And of course, if the car breaks down & can't be repaired before your session takes place, you will receive a full refund no questions asked.
